RIDE OBJECTIVES

Our aim is to let you enjoy country cycling experience surrounded by natural, farm atmosphere, unique coal mine history, art and culture herritage in Bibai City, Hokkaido. On the other hand, Bibai city would like to take this advantage to develop cycle tourism in the future.

OUR CONCEPT

What makes Bibai Country Ride so special? Bibai Country Ride takes you from pressure to relaxing feeling. Our designated course are well supported with Bibai’s beautiful landscape and scenery, in addition to the fresh air of Hokkaido. For those who are living in crowded city, Bibai is one of the most beautiful places your eyes would ever see. Awesome scenery, mountains, cities and landscapes to get totally lost in and unforgettable memory. Also, great local food station within the course will provide different type of local food. Making this ride as a cultural exchange experience.

Besides, event logo is designed for showing the characteristics of Bibai with art sculpture, natural in Miyajimanuma, farm scenery, blue sky and white birch forest.
Also, the blue color of title is considered as⌈BIBAI BLUE⌋. It is because the hex color code of this blue color is #2541BB, meaning that the birthday of Bibai city on 1st April, Showa 25 years.

Let’s go for Bibai Country Ride in autumn. You will be in a never ending cycling paradise, Hokkaido of Japan.

Course Guide

70km Around Bibai Course

Level between intermediate to advanced. A combo route that include a lot of beautiful scenery in Bibai city. Low traffic is great for riding and top recommended sightseeing spots are included. They are Arte Piazza Bibai and Miyajimanuma.

15km Family Course

Basic sightseeing course in Bibai. Because of the flat road, everybody can enjoy riding very well. This course will also include a stop in Arte Piazza Bibai, either adults or children can also relax themselves throughout the course.

Aid Station 1 - Arte Piazza Bibai

Arte Piazza means “Art Plaza” in Italian. Bibai, once one of the largest coal mining cities, has been suffering from critical depopulation. Arte Piazza Bibai, including the restored closed-down school facilities and the studio, is currently managed by the NPO. About 40 pieces of Kan Yasuda’s white-marble or bronze abstract sculpture, was placed here and there both inside and outside, can be touched, and it is an impressive thing to see children playing joyfully about his work. Festivals and other cultural activities take place in the park occasionally.

Aid Station 2 - Miyajimanuma

Miyajimanuma (Miyajima Marsh), a wetland registered under the Ramsar Convention Treaty, surrounded by an abundant rural zone and located at the west of Bibai city. In spring and autumn of every year, many tourists visit to watch the white-fronted geese, one of Japan’s natural monuments. Around 60,000 to 80,000 geese would take a stopover at Miyajimanuma, it is a great chance to have a trip there during the ride!

Start - Bibai City Hall / Chuo Park

Just 5 minutes walk from JR Bibai station. Getting straight through the main street to Bibai City hall, you will see Chuo Park on the right. There is large place having fountain, monument, allowing a a lot of citizens to relax and interact. In summer and winter, it is also used as an event venue.
There is a historical museum showing the memory of Bibai city, even for Hokkaido. It is worth to visit in your itinerary. Also, goal of ride is set as Sorachi Shrine that is just next to the park.
Parking area is supposed to be at Bibai City Hall just next to Chuo Park.

Aid Station 3 - Bibai Airport

Just next to Chuo Park. Sorachi shrine was created in 1876, it has been passed down for over 120 years to protect Sorachi District. For cyclists, Sorachi shrine has also concerned to have a safety ride and hence lucky charm – cycling special edition are in stock now. Let’s pray for a safety and memorable ride!

Terms and Conditions

※Please be sure to read and agree the following terms and conditions before application.

Applicant Eligibility
‧Eligible for all healthy riders who can complete the course at age of above 6.
※For age under 12 are NOT allowed to apply for long course.

‧Elighible for riders who agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
※For safety reasons age restrictions are adopted for participants who are under 12 years old to have an accompanying adult who is over the age of 18 on the date of the Event.
Accompanying adult should apply separately.

Terms and Conditions
1. Cancellations by the client are non-refundable.
2. In all circumstances BCR committee will endeavour to make sure the event goes ahead as planned. BCR committee reserves the right to cancel any event, due to extreme weather conditions. In such a event, each participants entry with be automatically moved to the rescheduled event. No refunds will be offered.
3. Each participant, upon signing the registration form, agrees that they are physically and mentally capable of riding the distance they have chosen. If, during the event, they decide to change their route and distance, then all consequences of this action are theirs.
4. It is mandatory that all riders wear a safety approved cycling helmet complying with latest standards. Any rider not wearing a helmet will not be covered by the event insurance and will be disqualified from the event and could be liable for damages if involved in an accident on that basis. The rider must accept this as a condition of entry. BCR committee reserve the right to refuse entry to the event to anyone with inappropriate equipment or clothing.
5. Failure to follow any such rules or instructions may result in committee refusing to allow the participant to continue in the Event. Participants must retire at once from the Event if ordered to do so for any reason by committee.
6. Any accident or injury caused by a Participant’s actions shall be the responsibility of that Participant.
7. BCR committee does not provide any insurance, whether life or medical or liability, for any illness, accident, injury, death, loss or damage that may arise in connection with the attendance at and/or participation in the Event.
8. Participants shall be responsible for arranging their own suitable and adequate insurance protection to cover their participation in the event, including without limitation cover:
i. for material loss/damage to any equipment they may use in the Event or personal property (including clothing);
ii. any loss or damage they may cause to a third party;
iii. sickness; or
iv. negligence of any party.
9. Each Participant agrees that information provided to BCR committee in connection with Events is true and accurate in all respects and may be used by BCR committee in accordance with prevailing data protection legislation.
10. Photographs and films will be taken throughout the event by BCR committee and/or its volunteers. All Participants consent to all and any use in any current or future media by BCR committee.
11. We require you to register your Personal Data in order to make a booking so we can contact you should there be a problem with your order. Please ensure you check details provided for accuracy so we can ensure effective communications with you. All data will be secured under personal data policy.
12. Accompanying Adults shall take full responsibility for the children under 12 that they are accompanying and must stay with their Young Person(s) at all times during the Event.
13. The Event Registration Form must be completed by a person aged 18 years or over. Evidence of age may be requested. For children under age of 18, companion with adults is necessary.
14. Riders are expected to respect the roads, villages and countryside that the events travel through. It should be remembered that this is both a working landscape and home to many communities. Riders stopping for a comfort break are asked to do so discretely and appropriately and not to cause any offense to local residents or other riders.
Reminders
  1. Riders accept that the event they are entering is non-competitive. Each rider should set their own speed to complete the course.
  2. Group will be separated for start but after that, rider can have their own speedy to rider freely.
  3. All riders must wear a helmet at all times during the event
  4. All riders must ensure that their bicycles are in a roadworthy condition; basically no limitation for the type of the bike
  5. For those who would not bring their own bike and seek for rental services, please contact us in advance.
  6. Out of course riding is NOT certificated for completion of the event.
  7. BCR Committee reserves the right to shorten or alter the published route at any time. Participants do not have the right to claim a refund if the route is shortened.
  8. We can keep the luggages at the reception of the event, but participants accept they are responsible for their personal belongings during the event. Valuable items should not be left without supervision, as no liability will be accepted for loss or damage of personal belongings.
  9. Riders must obey all traffic rules. Please be aware of your fellow cyclists and any other traffic. Please always indicate your intention to stop or change direction. Carrying two seated bike are prohibited.
  10. BCR committee reserves the right to cancel any event, due to extreme weather conditions. In such a event, it will be announced at the day of event before 6AM via homepage.

  11. Aid stations are eligible for use by participants only. Any companion who are not the participants are refused to use aid stations.
  12. It is suggested to bring up with any insurance certificate during the event.
  13. Please bring your own repair tools for bike (eg. tube or pump) if any accident during the event. Pump will be provided at each aid station for free but no services for repairing during the event.
  14. Participant number will be prepared by BCR committee, please make sure to show it on during  the ride.
  15. BCR committee do not responsible for arrangement of accommodations, please make it by your own.
  16. The temperature will be assumed at around 15-20 degree, please well prepare sufficient wears, waters or any equipments for protection of body without getting sick. Let’s enjoy the ride!!

After a long ride, you’ll need someplace to freshen up and rest your tired body. Below are your accommodations options for Bibai Country Ride 2017.

Onsen Hotel in Bibai

Pipa’s onsen~Hotel Yurinkan
You may experience both onsen (hot spring) and delicious cuisine in Hotel Yurinkan and get full power for your ride.
The selling point of the onsen is that it was decorated as a cave with blue light up together with outdoor open bath, you can enjoy the onsen and see the starry sky at the same time. Don’t you think that onsen (hotspring) is a must after a ride!?
*Just taking a onsen is possible without staying.
Special arrangement for staying riders:We are considering to hold a warming ride at the event day, riders are guided to the meeting place by cycling. (5km course), please contact us if interested.

Closest hotel to the event (1 min by walk)

Bibai Hotel Suehiro
Hotel Suehiro is convenient with great network of convenient store and supermarket by just few minutes walk. Of course local food restaurants are located around the hotel. You may enjoy Yakitori, torimeshi, ramen etc, easily. Also, JR Bibai train station is just by 5 mins walk from hotel, you can get access easily from either Sapporo or Asahikawa, even from New Chitose Airport.
All rooms are WI-FI connected and free for parking. In addition, dormitory room at 3F has been renovated in 2016. Either single or family group are welcome for staying.
